Nobody wants to have parents who borderline hate eachother.

And when two characters just bring out the worst in eachother like these two…it’s kinda hard to ignore if you’re right in the midde of it.

That could also explain why in said alternate future Ben and Kai seem so much nicer to eachother that it’s almost out of character compared to their younger selves.

It’s what any kid wants for their patents, you know?

I mean, that little detail where Spanner stayed behind to make sure Kai found that orb-thing and see what kind of reaction both she and Ben had to its discovery. Totally a child trying to fix his parents’ broken relationship.

Also, lets remember that Spanner is supposed to be 14. That’s still very young and relatively immature. It is highly believable that someone that young and inexperienced in relationships, and wouldn’t understand adult problems. He definitely would think and believe “if I just fixed this one thing from their past, it would fix everything”.

Bottom Line: Ben and Kai do NOT have a healthy marriage, and Kenny abuses the powers Paradox gave him to try and fix their relationship.
